Private, one-on-one atelier sessions in Berlin exploring block printing and wax resist. Created for individuals or pairs seeking a focused, meaningful experience informed by heritage craft, field research, and sustainability.

Explore the art block printing and resist

Learn to work with colour, patterns, and pigments

This private, one-on-one atelier session invites you into a working print studio to explore block printing through hands-on practice. At your own print table, you work directly with wax, inks, different colour systems, carved woodblocks for wax-resist and direct application, and a selection of specially designed tools and cloth. You will spend your creative escape in an environment shaped by material, research, and process.

Each session is guided by the season, the materials at hand, our ongoing research, and your curiosity. We work through rhythm, repetition, resistance, and release, allowing process and material decisions to shape the outcome. We follow process-led creative exploration.

Sessions may be attended individually or shared with a partner or close collaborator.

  • Field research in Kachchh, Gujarat. India.

We spend an extended period in Kachchh, Gujarat, exploring and studying the region's textile traditions through direct fieldwork and sustained practice. Building on our block print practice with eco-inks and natural dyes, we are also building on our resit print practice.

  • Learning from a master printer, Anwar Khatri

Our practice is shaped by time spent in Bagru and Bhujpur. In Bhujpur, we studied wax resist and block printing with our mentor and teacher, Anwar Khatri, in his studio. We learned so much in the two weeks we spent with Anwar, working at the print table, learning through repetition, material, and process.

  • From fieldwork to your print table

Our extensive fieldwork and research directly inform how we work with materials, colour, and processes in the atelier. These teachings are shared in our private print sessions, offering our guests rare access to heritage knowledge translated into our contemporary print practice.

Why choose a private session at Atelier Māya?

Focused creative time: A one-on-one atelier experience is designed for those who want to work independently, have space, want guided personal attention, and uninterrupted time to explore wax resist and block printing techniques.

Guided, hands-on printing: We. Slow. Down. We step away from digital noise. We are radical in our approach to print thinking and print making. You work at your own rhythm, supported by research-led guidance and material knowledge. There is no pressure, just creative inspiration from experienced printmakers and artists. You have time to follow your #flow.

Meaningful outcomes: Each private session blends heritage craft with contemporary print and design thinking. You’ll leave with hand-printed textiles, #flow test prints, material insight, and a lasting connection to a process you will love.

At Atelier Māya, every creative experience is designed for exploration, discovery, and lasting memories.

We work in the language of colour and block printing.

Inside the Private Atelier Experience

One-on-one focus: This private atelier experience is designed for undivided personal attention. You work at your own pace, with space to explore, pause, and follow your curiosity without pressure.

A quiet, analogue design space: The atelier functions as an #offline environment. We step away from digital noise, allowing time to go slow and explore intuitive making.

Material-led practice: You work exclusively with natural fibres, studio-mixed eco inks, responsible dyes, wax and a curated archive of blocks and tools. Materials are sourced with care so the experience remains tactile and grounded in extensive research.

Colour, mixed in-house: We are very proud of our unique, eco-friendly ink palette and the responsible colour systems we are developing. You may work within the Māya palette or explore new colour directions guided by the season, the materials at hand, and ongoing research.

Your work/your prints: Each private wax-resist session includes 1 metre of fabric for test printing, and 2 metres of fabric printed as the final piece. Additional fabric may be purchased during the session if inspiration hits.

Test printing: Unlimited test printing with our woodblocks and eco-inks. We have some very interesting fabrics we are exploring. You will be working with direct application and resist.

The value of this experience:

A creative reset: A private pause from daily routines and digital noise. Space to slow down, focus, and feel present in making.

Connection through making: Working with cloth, colour, and pattern creates a meaningful connection to process, material, and the stories we tell in handprinted textiles.

Sustainability in practice: We work with natural fibres, biodegradable inks, responsible dyes and ink systems. Our tools are carefully chosen. We only work with materials to support sustainable, creative making.

Your own creative digital detox and creative escape: Each session is led by a visual researcher and heritage craft specialist. You’re supported with knowledge, extensive field research, patience, and, of course, storytelling.

You will feel confident and inspired. We know from years of creative exploration and our unique way of working that you will leave with hand-printed textiles you will love and the creative confidence to continue print thinking beyond the studio. It can be a life-changing experience- we know!

Private by design: These experiences are not for the masses. Each session is personal, designed to inspire creativity, and one-of-a-kind.

Our guests value depth, focus, and intention.

  • Our hope is that this session serves as a starting point for your print thinking journey. We hope this session will encourage you to continue exploring block printing through the knowledge and practices shared at Atelier Māya.
